Rahul Gandhi meets family of Dipanjal Das, assures all help

MIRZA, Dec 28 - Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today visited the family of the first victim of police firing of the anti-CAA agitation, Dipanjal Das at his home at Doloitola village in Chhaygaon LAC in Kamrup district and had discussions for over 30 minutes with his family.

He was accompanied by the Congress general secretary in-charge of Assam, Harish Rawat, APCC president, Ripun Bora, MP, Abdul Khalek, Leader of the Opposition, Debabrata Saikia, Chhaygaon MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed and other senior leaders of the State Congress.

Gandhi had two close door meetings (one alone and other alongwith senior leaders of the Congress party) with the poverty-stricken parents of Dipanjal � Khagen Das and Kabita Das and brother and sister (Dipankar and Sangita respectively) in their one room 18 x 12 feet house and assured all help from the Congress party.

Gandhi expressed deep grief while having discussions with the bereaved family. He also paid his condolences to the departed soul.

Later, talking to mediamen, Chhaygaon MLA, Rekibuddin Ahmed, who was present during the visit, said that Rahul has assured the family to bear all maintenance expenses of the family and assured to provide them an auto-rickshaw within one or two days.

Ahmed also indicated that the Rahul Gandhi had also contemplated employment of the brother and sister of Dipanjal Das. Ahmed said that Rahul Gandhi has directed the State Congress to ensure that Dipanjal�s family never feels pain, remains in sorrow and become lonely.

Talking to ANN Service, the mother of Dipanjal, Sabitri Das said that she was very happy to receive Rahul Gandhi at his house.

�I am very happy that Rahul Gandhi came to our house. He has assured us all help. Not a single official from the BJP-led Assam Government has so far visited my home. I want repeal of the CAA within a short time,� she said.

It may be mentioned here that 17-year-old youth of Doloitola village in Chhaygaon LAC, Dipanjal Das, was killed during anti-CAA protests rally in Guwahati. Dipanjal was working in a canteen in Guwahati. His father, Khagen Das, is a rickshaw puller and it was not possible for him to run the family and hence Dipanjal left studies in Class IX and came to Guwahati for work.
