Rahul Gandhi launches election campaign in Meghalaya

SHILLONG, Jan 30 - AICC president Rahul Gandhi today met party leaders and workers from Jaintia Hills in Jowai during his two-day visit to the state.

The Congress president arrived in Jowai this afternoon and then went into a huddle with the party workers at Chuwakhu Indoor Hall in Mynthong-Jrisalem, Jowai. During the meeting, Gandhi discussed with the party workers and other functionaries about the poll preparedness of the party for the Assembly polls in the state.

The Congress candidates nominated for the six seats from Jaitia Hills also met Rahul. There are seven seats in Jaintia Hills, out of which the Congress announced candidates for six seats. Candidate for Khleihriat has not been selected and the party said that they are scouting for the ideal candidate.

Among the prominent leaders who accompanied the Congress president include MPCC working president, Vincent H Pala and Deputy Chief Minister RC Laloo.

This evening he is meeting Congress party workers here in Shillong at the Convention Centre. Later he would be attending a concert at the Polo Grounds.

On Wednesday, the AICC president would meet religious heads and the media. He would then meet women groups before heading for Delhi.
