Rahul for Bihar-like BJP debacle in State

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 11 - All India Congress Committee (AICC) vice president Rahul Gandhi today urged partymen to trigger a Bihar-like debacle for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 2016 State Assembly polls.

Addressing partymen at the District Library auditorium here, Gandhi said, If Modi is rejected in Assam, like in Bihar, he will be finished. But for that to happen, each and every Congressmen will have to fight in unison.

And if the Congress does not win in the ensuing polls, the pain and ordeal that the people of Assam had faced 15 years back would emerge again. We do not want to win for the Congress party, but for the people of Assam. We all know what the situation used to be like 15 years back, Gandhi said.

Taking potshots at the Prime Minister, Gandhi said, After the BJPs poor show in Bihar, the word Bihar went missing from the vocabulary of the Prime Minister. We should make him forget the word Assam as well after the Assam polls. He should be made to know that the Gujarat model is a failure.

We have the strongest base in Assam and Kerala, and I have full faith on party members and Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, the Congress vice president said.

Gandhi also lashed out at the Prime Minister for allegedly making hollow promises and not being able to fulfil those. Today, when I see Narendra Modi in the Parliament, I find him as a man who only makes promises every 10 days and also makes one Indian fight with another. Unlike him, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is a symbol of unity and does not make hollow promises, he stated.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that the BJP cannot be allowed to create division among the people on religious lines. We will have to work with greater zeal to keep the State free from the spineless leaders of the BJP, he said.

AlCC general secretary CP Joshi and APCC president Anjan Dutta were also present on the occasion among other prominent party leaders and its youth wings.
