Rafale deal: Cong protest in Tripura today

By CORRESPONDENT

AGARTALA, Aug 30 - The Congress is all set to intensify its organisational activities in Tripura by banking on the alleged scam in the Rafale deal. Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev is arriving here tomorrow to take part in a protest.

On a directive from the AICC, Tripura PCC president Birajit Sinha held a meeting with some leaders at the Congress Bhavan here to chalk out a plan for the proposed agitation programme after the Assembly election debacle.

Today, we held a meeting to prepare a plan to make Fridays agitation programme a success. Sushmita Dev, Mahila Congress president, is scheduled to arrive here to join the programme, he told reporters here today.

We are going to organise a march to the Raj Bhavan to lodge a protest with Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki against the multi-crore-rupee Rafale deal. We will also present a memorandum to the Governor, he said.

According to Sinha, the deal was inked during the UPA-I regime at a cost of Rs 520 crore and now the cost of the same deal has risen to Rs 1,670 crore. It is going to be the biggest scam in the days to come and the Congress will expose the Narendra Modi-led Government, he claimed.

Sinha, who has courted controversy after expulsion of a youth party leader, said Congress president Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit the State after the Durga Puja.
