Rabindra Sarkar feted by Eka Ebong Koekjan

PANDU, May 2 � It was truly a �poetic� evening at the AIREC auditorium here, where Rabindra Sarkar, recipient of the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award for his contribution to Assamese literature, 2014, was accorded a warm felicitation by Eka Ebong Koekjan, a reputed body of literary activists of Guwahati, on May 1.

The highlight of the programme was a question-answer session where poet Sarkar expressed his well-considered views on various aspects of poetry. The interactive programme was conducted by Sanjay Chakrabarty.

The meeting began with the observance of one minute�s silence in memory of the famous theatre personality Khaled Choudhury, who just passed away. This was followed by recitation of poet Sarkar�s poems by Gautam Bhattacharjee and felicitation to him by Dr Sujit Chakrabarty, president of the organising body and Dr Usha Ranjan Bhattacharjee, reputed academician of the region. Dr Bani Prasanna Mishra, celebrated social scientist of North Bengal University also spoke a few words befitting the occasion.

The gathering saw a good number of well-known poets of the State reading out their self-composed poems. Important among them were Samir Tanti, Anubhav Tulshi, Tushar Kanti Saha, Bimalendu Chakrabarty, Amitava Sengupta, Kishore Bhattacharjee, Deepika Biswas, Samindra Hujuri, Rajib Phukan, Chinmoy Kumar Das, Subrata Choudhury and others.

The entire programme was anchored by Shyamal Biswas.
