Rabha�s contributions recalled

SUALKUCHI, July 1 � The people of Sualkuchi remembered the contributions of Bishnu Prasad Rabha, great artist and humanist by observing the Rabha Divas, on his death anniversary on June 20.

Natun Sahitya Parishad, Sualkuchi branch in collaboration with the teaching staff of Sualkuchi MV School observed Rabha Divas at MV School premises. Bhagaban Mahanta, a teacher of the school illuminated two earthen jars while Sima Basumatary, a student initiated the floral tribute programme at portrait of Bishnu Prasad Rabha.

Later, a meeting chaired by Kalpana Bharali, headmistress of the school was held to recall the various contributions of Rabha. Bikash Kalita, the headmaster, Angkur Shishu Sadan, Sualkuchi and Kumud Das, secretary Anchalik Committee of CPM discussed the different aspects of the works of Bishnu Prasad Rabha. Jogendra Bharali, president, Sualkuchi branch of Natun Sahitya Parishad explained the objectives of the meeting which was more enjoyable as some of students along with their teachers presented songs and recited some poems.

The meeting was attended by Tirthanath Kakoti, president, No. 1 Pub Bansar Samabai Samiti. Rameswar Medhi president, SMC Sualkuchi MV School, Bhrigu Das, secretary Sualkuchi Tant Silpi Santha.

Jyoti Sahitya Sabha observed the day with a day-long programme. Mahendra Chandra Kalita hoisted the flag at 9 am, which was followed by illumination and floral tributes. Debi Ram Das president Mahapurashiya Dharmalochani Sabha. Sri Sri Sankardev Mandir lit the jars while Jatin Das, ex president, Jyoti Sahitya Sabha garlanded around the portrait of Bishnu Rabha.

On this occasion, a meeting was held with Mahendra Chandra Kalita, president, of Jyoti Sahitya Sabha in the chair. The meeting was addressed by Dr Dipesh Chandra Bhagabati, principal SBMS College, Pradip Narayan Bhatta, lecturer, Bamundi College, Harendra Kalita an executive member of Asam Sahitya Sabha. In the meeting, nearly 20 people read out poems composed by themselves. Bhupen Bharali conducted the poets meet.

Rabha Divas was also observed at Sualkuchi BMs college under the auspices of the teachers unit and the political department of the college. Umesh Chandra Das, president of the governing body illuminated jars and Priya Nath Sarma senior citizen and retired teacher, Sualkuchi HSS initiated the floral tributes on the portrait of Bishnu Prasad Rabha.

A lecture on �relevance of thoughts and philosophy of Bishnu Prasad Rabha in the social life of Assam� was held and Dr Rajani Kanta Das, former principal of Sualkuchi Budram Madhab Satradhikar College spoke on the topic. Dr Dipesh Chandra Bhagabati, principal of the college inaugurated the lecture and Umesh Chandra Das, president of the college governing body made a brief speech.

Pranab Deka, lecturer of the college conducted the talk. Dr Jogesh Deka, lecturer of the college anchored the meeting.
