By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 13 The Nikhil Rabha Sahitya Sabha today demanded appointment of the selected Rabha language teachers of Goalpara district. It has also demanded completion of the selection process for appointment of the Rabha language teachers of Kamrup district.

The office-bearers and members of the Rabha Sahitya Sabha today staged a sit-in demonstration at the Dispur Last Gate to presswise the government on their demands.

The other demands raised by them include-introduction of Rabha medium of instruction in educational institutions, filling up vacancies occurring against the posts of the Rabha language teachers due to the death of the incumbent teachers. They also demanded return of those Rabha language teachers who have been transferred to the general category posts to their original posts, preparation of Rabha language textbooks in line with the NCERT and regular supply of Rabha language textbooks.

They further demanded lowering of the TET eligibility mark for the tribals from 45 per cent to 35 per cent, creation of 500 new posts of Rabha language teachers, appointment of assistant inspector of schools for Rabha language and implementation of the resolution of the meetings held so far between the government with the Rabha Sahitya Sabha.

They alleged that the State government, led by the Congress, has failed to initiate any realistic step to solve the problems faced by the Rabhas. The decisions arrived at in the meeting between the Rabha Sahitya Sabha and the then Education Minister Gautam Bora on September 16, 2008 on 11 issues have so far not been implemented, they alleged.

The above meeting with the Education Minister was followed by the meetings with the Commissioner-Secretary of the Education Department on two occasions. But due to the lack of seriousness on the part of the State government, no step has so far been taken on the above issues, resented the Rabha Sahitya Sabha office-bearers and members in a written statement signed by Rabha Sahitya Sabha president Jagat Kama and general secretary Biswanath Rabha.
