Raas festival at Tihu

GUWAHATI, Nov 20 - Brisk preparations are under way at Tihu to celebrate the 63rd edition of Raas Festival at Swahid Himangshu Tamuli Khetra, Tihu from November 25 to December 5 under the aegis of the Tihu Barowari Raas Mahotsov Samittee. This was stated in a press release.

A celebration committee with Hemantaraj Talukdar as president, Harekrishna Medhi as working president, Anil Sarma, Naudhan Mazumdar, Sunil Das, Paban Haloi, Nagen Saloi as vice-presidents, Alakesh Choudhury and Kankan Kalita as joint secretaries, Rama Sarma, Ratul Kalita, Gokul Thakuria, Hitesh Barman and Gunajyoti Pathak as assistant secretaries and Bhaskardip Barman as office secretary was formed along with 15 sub-committees for the smooth conduct of the festival.

On the first day, the main programme will be flag hoisting, banti prajjalan, smriti tarpan, inauguration of Raas Mahotsov by Kanaksen Deka, ex-president, Asam Sahitya Sabha, inaugural meeting which will be attended by Ashim Kr Kazi, a senior official of AIR Guwahati, release of the souvenir Muruli by Manikuntala Bhattacharya.

The main programme of the remaining days will be antaranga alap, seminar on the subject �The importance of Raas Mahotsov in present times�, modern dance competition, cultural night, naam competition, drawing competition, open quiz which will be conducted by Dipankar Kaushik of Dainik Asam, ojapali, natyavinay, Felicitation, essay contest, recitation and prize distribution function. Prastuti Parasar will attend the prize distribution function.

Debu, Arner, Nibedita Barua, Ridam, Nisanta, Vitali Barbi, Hiya Medhi, Dhruba Kaswap, Gitashree, Nitul and Jina Rajkumari etc., will enthral the public in the cultural nights. The cultural nights will be inaugurated by Dr Kartik Deka, distinguished physician, Dr Saumen Bharatia, distinguished journalist, Dr Anup Barman, Professor, Gauhati Medical College, Pabitra Kr Kalita, Managing Director, Assam Government Nirman Nigam, Manoj Jalan, distinguished businessman and Kamaleswar Medhi, prominent social worker respectively, the release added.
