This declaration was made by Additional Advocate General Devajit Saikia on the behalf of the State Government in connection with a Writ Petition [WP (C) No 224/2011; Misc Case No 3333/ 2011]. The Writ Petition was filed by a group of citizens, representing the Latasil Playground Development Committee, pleading for judicial intervention to shift the venue of the Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations from the Latasil Playground.

The Court today closed the Writ Petition with the above assurance from the Additional Advocate General, said Advocate Prasanta Kumar Barman, who represented the petitioners in the Court.

The petitioners said that about four and half a year back, the venue of the celebration of the Independence Day and the Republic Day was shifted to Latasil Ground on the plea that the Judges Field, the traditional venue of the celebration, was under renovation. The Latasil Playground Development Committee gave provisional permission to hold the celebrations considering the urgency of the situation.
