Quiz contests held at Assam Jatiya Bidyalay

GUWAHATI, July 1 - As a part of its silver jubilee year celebrations, an inter-school and an open quiz competition were held at Assam Jatiya Bidyalay, Noonmati, today.

The competition began from 9 am and in the inter-school section, altogether 47 teams from 32 schools from across the State took part, out of which six teams were selected for the final round.

The first prize in the inter-school quiz competition (Rs 10,000) was won by Unmilan Kalita and Neelav Barman from Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Silpukhuri, Guwahati. The second prize (Rs 7,500) went to Mandeep Bayan and Sanjeev Kumar Das from Cotton State University. The third prize (Rs 5,000) was bagged by Kritartha Mahanta and Chinmoy Sharma from Nalanda Public School, Nalbari.

In the preliminary round of the open quiz competition, altogether 90 teams participated, from which six were selected for the final round. The first prize (Rs 15,000) in the open quiz competition was won by Biswajit Sarma (Gauhati University) and Debasish Bashistha (Tezpur University), the second prize (Rs 12,500) by Dilip Kumar Sharma, a journalist with Asomiya Pratidin and Dipankar Kaushik, a journalist with Dainik Asom; the third prize (Rs 10,000) by Mridulram Kalita, a government employee, and Sudarshan Goswami, a student from National Law University.

Shakya SK Khound, the quizmaster, and Ayan Sharma, both from Ambedkar University, Delhi, conducted the inter-school and open quiz competition, where more than 400 students along with their guardians were present.

Rector of the school Ranjit Narayan Deka inaugurated the competition in the morning by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Dr Narayan Sharma, secretary of the management committee, conveyed to the audience the significance of organising such a competition as part of the school�s year-long silver jubilee celebrations.

The anchoring of both the competitions was done by Aparna Devi, former Principal and a senior teacher from the Department of Social Science. The convenor of inter-school and open quiz competition was Manashi Barua, a senior teacher from the Department of Social Science.
