GUWAHATI, Nov 1 - The closing ceremony of the year-long Pulin Das birth centenary celebration was held here today in presence of an elite gathering.
The organizers � Pulin Das Birth Centenary Celebration Committee honoured veteran sports organiser Dr Tapan Dutta on the occasion while noted cricketer of the State Bimal Bharali delivered key note address on �Sportsman and Sportsman Spirit � Both Equally Important�. Veteran journalist Premadhar Sharma was also present on the occasion and spoke on Pulin Das.
Dr Dutta, recalling Pulin Das said he learnt a lot from the leading sports organiser and they organised several national level events together. Dr Dutta also revealed that Das had been such a great organiser who took initiative in setting up several State level associations. �His contribution in introducing the game of TT in State was immense. Contributing from his own pocket he purchased a TT board and started the game at the Cotton College,� recalled Dr Dutta.
Speaking on the subject Bimal Bharali, who was the captain of the Assam Ranji team and played for East Zone against visiting MCC team in 1976, said sportsman spirit teaches to take defeat sportingly and it acts like a medicine in every step of life. Delving deep into the subject, Bharali said sportsman and sports scribes always work for the noble cause of the society. He said sportsmen always show courage and boldness in facing difficult situations which remain as example for others.
Earlier, president of the Committee Nayan Prasad welcomed the gathering while secretary Kalyan Kumar Das offered the vote of thanks. Chandan Sarma anchored the programme.
