Puja festivities grip Nalbari dist

NALBARI, Oct 16 - Durga puja festivities have gripped the people of Nalbari district as preparations are going on at more than a hundred community puja pandals of the district in full swing. Durga puja will also be held at the historic Bilbeswar Devalaya, Balilecha Kali Mandir, Bagheswari Devalaya among others. At the historic Bilbeswar Devalaya of Belsor and Adattari Durga Mandir in Nalbari district, Nabaratri Durga puja is going on from October 13.

On the Mahanavami day, a total of 35 buffaloes will be sacrificed at the Bilbeswar Devalaya despite the opposition of some nature-loving organisations. It may be mentioned here that thousands of devotees will gather at the devalaya to witness the puja. Devotees will also throng the Balilecha Kali Mandir and Bagheswari Devalaya of Adabari. Kumari Puja will also be performed at Adattari near Mukalmua in Nalbari district where the Navaratri Durga Puja is being held.The Kumari Puja of Adattari Durga Mandir attracts thousands of people from various part of the State as nine teenage girls will be worshipped on the Navami as the nine forms of Devi Durga.

Preparations are also going on to celebrate Ravan Dahan at Tihu Barowari Durga Puja on the Bijoya Dashami. Besides, the Durga Puja Celebration Committees of Karia, Ulabari, Bagalchak, Barbari, Kamarkuchi and Ghograpar have also begun preparations. Buffalo sacrifice will also be held at the Ulabari community Durga puja of the district.

Puja shopping has also picked up in the last two days at Nalbari town. The Nalbari district administration has beefed up security arrangements in the entire district to ensure peace and normalcy during the Puja. The administration held a round of meetings with the presidents and secretaries of the puja committees to maintain peace and tranquility in the district. The Deputy Commissioner of Nalbari, Dr Om Prakash has taken some special measures for the smooth puja celebrations.
