Puja celebrations in Assam disrupted by rain

By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, Oct 16 (PTI) - A heavy downpour disrupted Durga Puja celebrations here today with some puja organisers forced to use boats to ferry worshippers.

Incessant rain for nearly three hours in the morning inundated most of the puja pandals here causing inconvenience for visitors preparing to perform puja on 'Mahanavami'.

The worst affected puja pandals were on Zoo Road, Maligaon, Tarunnagar, Nabinnagar and Kala Pahar areas where water inundated the entire area.

Priests were seeing performing puja from raised platforms while puja committee authorities requisitioned for the use of boats to ferry worshippers in Nabinnagar and Tarunnagar areas.

Filth and garbage accumulated from the pandals added to the woes of the commuters as it blocked drains preventing the rainwater from flowing out.

The weather god however relented in the evening hours and people managed to catch a glimpse of the Goddess.
