Publication Board to publish over 100 invaluable books this year

GUWAHATI, Aug 23 - The Publication Board, Assam is planning to publish over 100 invaluable books and to hold five book fairs, besides holding the Brahmaputra Literary Festival during the current financial year. For the purpose, it has prepared a calendar too.

The Board said in a statement here this evening that the book fairs are proposed to be held in Sonitpur, Majuli and Nalbari districts, besides Kamrup (Metro) district. The Board has also chalked out a plan to organise literary functions in association with the ethnic organisations.

From November 1 to 4 book fairs will be held in the tea estate areas of Sonitpur district, from November 11 to 14 a children�s book festival will be held at Chandmari in the city, from December 22 to January 2 the Guwahati Book Fair will be held at Chandmari, from January 21 to 24, 2019 a rural book fair will be held at Barbari in Nalbari district, from February 9 to 11 the Brahmaputra Literary Festival will be held at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in the city and from February 25 a book fair will be held in Majuli.

A meeting of the executive committee of the Board took the decision in presence of the Education Minister.

The Board has decided not to take any rent for the stalls from the book publishers and sellers in the children�s book festival planned in Guwahati and the book fair planned in Sonitpur district. Besides, the visitors will be able to visit the fairs without any entry fee.

The Publication Board also assured that it is ready to hold talks with other book fair organisers on the schedule to settle the disputes that may arise on the dates.
