IMPHAL, July 10 - Residents of Imphal, mostly youths and womenfolk, continue to stage protest rallies and sit-in demonstrations demanding the introduction of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) in Manipur to regulate influx of outsiders, by defying the curfew imposed in greater Imphal, for the second day on Friday. The curfew will be relaxed for five hours from
5 am tomorrow, sources said.
Manipur has been witnessing widespread agitations under the initiative of Joint Committee on ILPS since the last few days.
On the concluding session of the State Assembly on Friday, Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh assured the House that the government will invite the Joint Committee on ILPS for holding talks. �We cannot solve the ILPS issue without any talk,� he reiterated. The government will lift the curfew besides reopening the educational institutions if the situation improves, he said.
Normal life came to a grinding halt in Manipur, particularly in the State capital here for the second day on Friday, as the indefinite curfew continues. Tension continues to run high at the Khurai Lairikyengbam Leikai, the locality of the deceased student Robinhood, as local youths and womenfolk staged protest rallies defying the curfew. But they were dispersed by the police in the afternoon.
