GUWAHATI, June 19 � The Kamrup Metro district administration today said it has removed encroachment from over 411�bighas�of public land in Sonapur and Chandrapur areas on the outskirts of the city.
In an official communication, the district authorities said the anti-encroachment drive followed two judgments of the Gauhati High Court and involved public land occupied by 38 brick kilns.
Notices were sent to the brick kilns and in recent days, 16 such encroachments in Sonapur revenue circle and 18 in Chandrapur revenue circle have been removed and over 411 bighas of public land freed from encroachment.
Now action has been initiated against the remaining brick kilns occupying over 148�bighas of public land.
The land freed from encroachment will be preserved and used for public purpose, the district administration added.
