BAIHATA CHARIALI, Dec 25 - In spite of repeated complaints being made against the toll gate authority at Madanpur under Kamrup district, the powers that be have not taken any step to check the illegal activities continuing in the name of toll collection there, said Pradip Kumar Deka, adviser, Pub Kamrup unit of the All Assam Students� Union (AASU).
Alleging that public have been facing a lot of harassment at the toll gate due to such activities, the AASU leader yesterday said that the toll gate was constructed in front of the Modartola Vidyapeeth High School simply for collecting money, ignoring the fact that the installation of the toll gate would vitiate the educational environment. A long queue of vehicles is always seen at the spot and traffic snarls turn it into a disturbing zone. The entire portion of the road is used for vehicles, leaving little space for students and public to use the road safely. A number of accidents have also taken place on the road due to the unscientific construction of the toll gate, Deka alleged.
