Public felicitation of theatre artistes planned

GUWAHATI, Jan 20 - With a view to encouraging the playwrights and artistes of mobile theatre groups of the State, the Assam Cultural Trust will hold public felicitation programmes every year.

A decision in this regard was taken at the first governing body meeting of the Trust under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the Brahmaputra State Guest House today. The Trust also decided to convene annual special events to showcase the rich and vibrant culture of the Barak Valley and hill districts of the State.

Presiding over the meeting, Sonowal advised the Trust to take special measures for improving the infrastructure of the ITA Pragjyoti Centre for Performing Arts, Machkhowa. He also advised the Trust to take steps for showcasing the cultural, religious, linguistic versatility and traditional life of 70 tribes of the State so that tourists can appreciate its rich cultural diversity. He further asked the Trust to initiate measures for setting up state-of-the-art auditoriums in various towns of the State.

The Trust has been organising various annual events, including drama festivals, summer camps on drama for children, etc., for promoting cultural activities.

Minister of State for Cultural Affairs Naba Kumar Doley, Chief Minister�s Media Adviser Hrishikesh Goswami, Commissioner and Secretary of Cultural Affairs Department Pritom Saikia, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro) Dr M Angamuthu, Director of Cultural Affairs Deba Prasad Mishra and other members of the Trust were present at the meeting.
