Public activist alleges rule violation

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 27 Questioning how many Governors the State has at the moment, public activist Prof Deven Dutta today said that he had came across several vehicles including two-wheelers having number plates with the full name of Assam written on those whereas only the Governors vehicle was entitled to have a number plate in that manner and all other vehicles were required by the law to have the abbreviated version of the word Assam as in AS/AX/AM, etc.

Prof Dutta said that he had drawn the attention of the police and the Transport Department officials to this illegality umpteen times but without any avail. In the latest instance, I saw a grey-colour Indica bearing registration no ASSAM-23/F/4171 at Ganeshguri around 8-45 pm on March 11. Such violations of number plate norms have been common but the authorities concerned invariably tend to ignore those, he said.

Prof Dutta also criticized the legislators, saying that the public representatives who were habituated to wasting precious time on utterly irrelevant issues inside the State Assembly would do well to deliberate on issues of vital public importance.

Prof Dutta lambasted the aged student leaders in their mid-40s and mid-50s who had been perpetuating their hold on student bodies for decades by misleading the student community. These so-called student leaders never raise their voice against the rampant illegalities, irregularities and corruption taking place in the Transport Department. It is time the people gave a thought behind their resounding silence, he said.
