Proxy medical entrance exam linkman arrested

SILCHAR, May 28 � A linkman was arrested in connection with the case of proxy attendance in the recently-held Combined Entrance Examination for medical and technical education in Assam by Silchar police on Saturday night from Hailakandi. The arrested person has been identified as Fazal Mahmood Mazumder (30).

TSI Silchar Police station Mukut Kakati led the operation with SI KK Laskar with the help of OC Hailakandi AH Choudhury and his men.

According to police, the link man had close association with a team of proxy candidates who were caught red handed on May 19 during the examination from two centres in Silchar.

Earlier in the month, four youths were arrested by Silchar Police for allegedly appearing in the Combined Entrance Examination for medical and technical education in Assam on behalf of the candidates. The students were caught from GC College and Women�s College, the two centres for the entrance examination.

According to sources, Bishal Jadhav of Sankarpur, under Madhepura district in Bihar appeared for Kaushik Roy of Bongaigaon ( roll no. 110131), Niranjan Kumar of Sabijur district in Bihar appeared for Syed Murtaza, Dhubri (roll no 110419,) Sujit Kumar, from Samastipur, Bihar appeared for Pradip Jyoti Barman, (roll no 110376) and Brajesh Kumar appeared for Muhibur Rahman Mazumder (roll no 310157). During initial interrogation, the proxy candidates confessed that they were preparaing for the entrance examination in Bihar but when they got the offer in exchange of a hefty price they agreed to avail it. The arrested persons informed the police that they were given offer of Rs 40-70,000 per candidate for sitting as proxy candidates. Meanwhile, an FIR has been lodged against the arrested students and police is investigating the case.
