Protests against immigrant tag

By STAFF CORRESPONDENT

DIBRUGARH, Feb 4 The Asom Yuva Parishad has come down heavily on the BJP for referring the people of North East as immigrants and migrants in its Vision Document for Delhi Assembly polls and later trying to downplay the reference by claiming it as an error.

Sunil Rajkonwar, president of Asom Yuva Parishad, said the BJP had used religion and caste to reap political benefits in the past and now they are exploring new methods, like use of geography and region, to woo votes from the Hindi-speaking people of Delhi.

The local Youth Congress too staged a demonstration near the Thana Chariali in protest against the same issue.

Members of the Youth Congress raised anti-Modi and anti-BJP slogans and burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah.

The district unit of the All Assam Students Union also took out a torch rally as part of the students bodys Statewide protests against the anti-Indian reference by BJP to the people of northeastern region.
