IMPHAL, June 29 Activists of Women Action for Development (WAD) today took out a rally in Imphal protesting rise in crimes against women.

Holding placards, which read Wake up 60 MLAs, We demand speedy trial of all cases of women and children, Rule of law is womens best friend, We want justice, Save our future, Rectify UN convention on torture and Stop violence against women, hundreds of women participated in the 3-km long march along the Indo-Myanmar Road. The march was flagged off at Kakwa Market, 6 km south of Imphal by Opposition Trinamool Congress MLA Th Bishorjit Singh around 11am. The rally ended at the Chingamakha Leimayol Arts Centre for a public meeting.

We are organizing the rally because crime against women in on the rise in the State despite the continuous campaigns. Unfortunately our elected MLAs are not taking any step to prevent crime against women, says WAD secretary Sobita Mangsatabam.
