BARPETA, April 5 - A massive rally stormed Barpeta on Tuesday protesting the alleged wrong treatment of doctors in Fakharuddin Ali Medical College leading the death of Somali Sarkar, a meritorious student of Madhab Choudhury College and demanding adequate compensation to the family of the deceased.
Hundreds of students assembled at the MC College campus on Tuesday morning and took out the protest rally. The procession first moved towards the Fakharuddin Ali Medical College, but the police intercepted the rally midway. Later they moved towards the town and blocked the busy Panch Ali Point for a while. Then the protestors went to the office of the Deputy Commissioner where they submitted a memorandum demanding a probe into the incident and urged the administration to punish the doctors who were responsible for the death of the student.
The death of Sonali Sarkar is not a single incident of wrong treatment of the FAAMC Hospital here. There have been frequent allegations of wrong medical treatment as well as the poor behaviour of doctors and other staff of the hospital.
In other words, the medical college has miserably failed to fulfil the hopes and aspirations of the people who mostly belong to economically underprivileged class.
