Protest continues in Lakhimpur

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Dec 19 - The members of Congress and other political parties today staged a sit-in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in North Lakhimpur today.

The Lakhimpur District Congress also organized a sit-in protest against the CAA in front of the Deputy Commissioner�s office in North Lakhimpur. The sit-in programme was attended by ex-Lakhimpur MLA Ghana Buragohain, ex-Bihpuria MLA Bhupen Bora and DCC president Dr Joy Prakash Das. The Congress leaders alleged that the saffron party is trying to divide the people of the State on religious line. They also condemned the police atrocities on the protesters.

�Despite protests across the State, the Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal has failed to take a bold step in this regard,� the Congress leaders claimed.

The Lakhimpur district CPI also took out a demonstration march in North Lakhimpur demanding scrapping of the Act.

The Lakhimpur District unit of Asam Sahitya Sabha conducted an awareness meet on Assam State Language Act-1960 while protesting CAA in North Lakhimpur today. Similar sit-in demonstration was also organized by Lakhimpur District Freedom Fighters Association and their Families in North Lakhimpur.

The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parichad (AJYCP) also organized a sit-in protest in front of the District Judicial Complex in North Lakhimpur.
