Protest by cab drivers, owners

GUWAHATI, June 9 - Cab owners and drivers today staged a demonstration at the offices of Ola and Uber.

The protesting drivers and owners said a meeting was held in presence of the Deputy Commissioner, transport and traffic officials and representatives of Ola and Uber on May 19 last.

�In that meeting, the DC had directed the Ola and Uber authorities to discuss and resolve the grievances of the drivers and cab owners. But nothing has happened till date. Instead, Ola and Uber slashed the rates and closed down many accounts,� the protesters said.

In the wake of protests, police today called the representatives of Ola and Uber, and the cab drivers� union members and held a meeting.

�Police directed the Ola and Uber authorities to hold discussions with us by tomorrow and resolve the issues,� the protestors said. The cab owners and drivers are demanding a minimum wage of Rs 2,500 per eight hours of work, minimum base fare of Rs 100 for the first 2 km and a halt to fresh registration of vehicles.
