JORHAT, Aug 29 A mass protest rally was taken out in Jorhat town today under the aegis of Sachetan Oikya Mancha demanding deportation of illegal migrants and to rid the district of foreign nationals.

Several organisations, including AASU, AJYCP, KMSS and AATSA participated in the programme. More than 10,000 protesters assembled near Jorhat Stadium where litterateur Dr Jatindra Kumar Borgohain flagged off the rally.

The rally passed through the AT Road, Garh Ali and returned to the place from which it had started, through the KB Road.

Putul Dutta, AJYCP adviser and one of the conveners of the mass protest rally, said it is really unfortunate that foreign citizens have been taking shelter in the State even after 28 years of the signing of the Assam Accord. The illegal migrants irrespective of their caste and religion would have to leave Jorhat as soon as possible, he said.
