Protest against CMs comments

By Correspondent

TINSUKIA, Feb 6 In protest against the reported comments of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi favouring shelter to immigrants from Bangladesh on humanitarian grounds, the Tinsukia Anchalik Chatra Santha took out a bicycle rally here on Tuesday. The student body condemned the comments and demanded implementation of all provisions of the Assam Accord including land reservation for the indigenous people of the State. It further stated that the Chief Minister should take immediate action to deport illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.

Rhino killings: In view of the continuous killing of rhinos at the Kaziranga National Park by poachers, the people of Tinsukia have expressed concern over the very existence of this rare species of mammals and demanded immediate action by the Government of Assam to curb the menace. In protest against the killing of rhinos due to the Governments alleged failure to protect them, the activists of the Tinsukia District Students Union and the Tinsukia district committee of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) resorted to separate protest programmes at Tinsukia on Tuesday.

The Tinsukia AASU activists burnt the effigy of Rockybul Hussain, Forest Minister, at the Thana Chariali here, while the AJYCP resorted to a dharna programme by observing a black day in front of its district office situated along the GNB Road in Tinsukia. Both organisations demanded resignation of the Forest Minister for failure to check rhino poaching. The twin organisations also expressed concern over the reported comments of the Chief Minister who was trying to politicise the issue.
