Protect SEBA, AHSEC students interest: AASU

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 13 The All Assam Students Union (AASU) has demanded steps to protect the interest of several lakhs of students, who had passed out from educational institutions affiliated to the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) in matters related to their admissions to colleges.

In a statement here, the student body said that through memorandums to the Commissioner and Secretary, Higher Education Department and Director, Higher Education of the State, it today pleaded for effective steps to protect the interest of the SEBA and AHSEC curriculum students in matters of college admissions.

The office memorandum issued by the Commissioner and Secretary, Higher Education Department on June 5, 2014 (No AHE 250/2014) has posed a threat to the SEBA and AHSEC students in this regard, as the marking systems of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the States Secondary Education Board and the Higher Secondary Education Council are quite different.

Therefore, there is a need to adopt a special measure to protect the interest of students who studied under the States Board and Council. Some colleges have adopted such a measure. But the above directive issued by the Commissioner and Secretary, Higher Education Department will adversely impact the admission prospects of the States Board and Council students, said the students body.
