Proper development a far cry in many rural areas

By Shambhu boro

DHEKIAJULI, July 8 At a time when the Congress-ruled State government wants to present a rosy picture in the developmental works in various departments, the people of various rural areas under Dhekiajuli LAC in Sonitpur district are yet to enjoy the real taste of development of their areas.

Despite the presence of a number of developmental projects under the State Governments department of DRDA, people living in the remote rural areas like Mejengjuli, Sopai-Jhargaon, Sopai-Rowmari, Hograjuli, Raikoshmari, Sirajuli, Sopai Baligaon, Sopai Rowmari-Pothar etc., villages are witness to deplorable road condition, absence of potable water, medical facilities, and proper education facilities in the name of development during the last many years. The citizens of these areas allege that they have been deprived of all sort of government facilities.

Even after the elapse of 66 years of Indias independence, proper development in these areas is still a far cry due to the alleged negligence to these areas by the authorities concerned and the public representatives including the present local MLA of the constituency, Habul Chakrabarty. The northern part of the Dhekiajuli township falling under 71 No- Dhekiajuli LAC in Sonitpur district from Panchnoi river to Misamari Sonai Rupai Wildlife sanctuary area is dominated by local indigenous people like the Bodos, Adivasis, Rabhas, Nepalis etc., adjacent to the Assam-Arunachal border area, do not find the required necessary facilities. The woes of residents of this belt have fallen on deaf ears of the authorities. Most of the roads connecting the Hograjuli, Belsiri, Misamari and the Batachipur railway stations with the NH-15 at Dhekiajuli town have been in a most dilapidated condition since the last a couple of decades. The panchayats under the Dhekiajuli development block which are solely bestowed the developmental works of the rural area have also allegedly failed to deal with the problems of the people of this greater area, the residents alleged.

Due to the alleged rampant corruption by the panchayat representatives, the genuine beneficiaries have been deprived of their required facilities including dwelling houses under IAY scheme, MNREGA scheme for the construction/repairing of roads in the area etc. The people of the area said, Due to the dilapidated road conditions, even the 108 Ambulance doesnt want to come to our area following which emergency patients have to embrace untimely death on many times.

On the other hand, the public of the area under the Dhekiajuli LAC alleged that instead of looking into the matters related to the citizens, the local MLA has been busy in dissident politics for the last couple of years for which the developmental works in the constituency have remained stagnant. It is pertinent to mention here that the roads in these rural areas, which are full of knee-deep potholes, have of late become a death trap for the commuters. It is mentionable that for the development of these major roads, crores of rupees including MLA and MP funds have been sanctioned, but nothing has been done yet. Social workers of Rowmari area, Hemanta Rabha and Dipjyoti Bora said that the public representatives of the area have been urged time and again to deal with the long pending public interest works, but till date no positive response was achieved. Yet we are optimistic enough that the new BJP government under the leadership of Narendra Modi will be kind enough to look into our public woes, they said.

Meanwhile, citizens of the most underdeveloped area rued that most parts of the Dhekiajuli LAC, particularly the northern part covering about 100 villages have been almost devastated due to the rampant corruption of the local MLA and some of the workers for years. While the Congress Government has claimed hundred per cent development in every field of the State, the devastated condition of this belt rather provides a depressing picture of Tarun Gogois shining Assam, they rued.
