Proper conservation of Borgeet stressed

GUWAHATI, April 16 - The Department of Assamese at Beltola College organised a lecture programme recently on the topic, �Borgeet of Mahapurush Sri Sri Sankaradeva and Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhabadeva�.

The main lecture was delivered by noted scholar-cum-Professor Parikshit Hazarika, retired Head of the Department of Assamese, Gauhati University.

In his lecture, Professor Hazarika spoke about Borgeet in the present times.

He laid stress on proper conservation and propagation of Borgeet in regard to raag and taal, in keeping with its status and prestige at the international level.

Professor Hazarika also spoke about the day-to-day use of Borgeet in Assamese satras, which he felt, had greatly contributed to its popularity and preservation, besides propagation.

Earlier, the lecture programme started with lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Dr Ajit Borkotoky, Principal of Beltola College.

The lecture programme was chaired by the Head of the Assamese Department of Beltola College, Bharati Devi. Mrigendra Nath Sarma, Assistant Professor of the department delivered the welcome speech while Dr Bhaskar Patgiri, Assistant Professor in the same department, shed light on the life and works of Professor Hazarika.

He said that Professor Hazarika has contributed a lot towards Assamese language and literature, especially by editing old Assamese books, journals and magazines.

An interactive session was also held between Professor Hazarika and the students of the college.
