Promode Gogoi critically ill

GUWAHATI, April 5 � Veteran CPI leader and one of the National Executive members of the party, Promode Gogoi is in a critical condition and has been kept on ventilation at the GNRC.

The 82-year-old Gogoi was admitted to the hospital on April 2 after he complained of nasal bleeding and was kept at the ICU.

�His condition deteriorated abruptly after 9 pm yesterday and a severe stroke was detected after an MRI test,� said CPI leader Dhrupad Borgohain who has been with Gogoi for the past couple of days.

Gogoi has been a member of the National Executive of the party since 1975. He was re-elected to the National Executive in the 21st party congress held in Patna from March 27 to 31 in which he had taken part. Gogoi was also the party secretary from 1975 to 1988.
