Prohibitory orders around temples

GUWAHATI, Nov 19 � The Kamrup Metro district administration today issued an order prohibiting washing of vehicles and animals, as well as bathing by individuals, in the river in and around Basistha temple with immediate effect.

In an order issued under Section 144 of CrPC, Rajib Prakash Barua, Additional District Magistrate, Kamrup Metro, said that, �... hereby prohibit washing of vehicles, animals, crudes, bathing by individuals over the river in and around Basistha temple with immediate effect and until further order.�

It added that any person or organization found �violating this order may be taken to task under relevant provisions of law.�

�... that washing of vehicles, animals, crudes, bathing by individuals are going on unabated over the river in around Basistha temple causing serious problems of health hazards and other anti-social activities,� the order said, adding that such activities �over the river in and around Basistha temple may lead to serious law and order problem as there is great public resentment regarding this issue and demanded immediate intervention of the district administration.�

In another order, the district administration prohibited distribution of foodstuffs and other perishable items to the beggars and homeless persons in front of the Sukleswar temple at Panbazar with immediate effect and until further order.

�... hereby prohibit distribution of foodstuffs and other perishable items to the beggars/homeless persons in front of the Sukleswar/Janardan temple at Panbazar with immediate effect and until further order. Any person/organization found violating this order may be taken to task under relevant provisions of law,� it said.

The order added that �unspecified persons/organizations/NGOs are indulging in distribution of foodstuffs and other perishable items to the beggars/homeless persons in front of the Sukleswar/Janardan temple at Panbazar� in very unhygienic methods and very polluted atmosphere on the footpaths which have caused serious health hazards to the individuals who have taken these foodstuffs and also to the residents and passerby.

It said that if such practices continue, there is likelihood of serious health hazards to both those who take such items and also to passerby and residents of the area.
