SILAPATHAR, March 28 � The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dhemaji, which forms a part of the extension wing of the Assam Agricultural University, recently organised a programme for more than 70 women farmers from different parts of the district. The programme started with a quiz session. Three women farmers were felicitated for their leadership and involvement in the uplift of the society.
Ajit Kumar Bordoloi, Deputy Commissioner of Dhemaji, who was present on the occasion, encouraged the women farmers to excel in agro-based enterprises. He also asked the participants to play a pro-active role in preventing social evils like drinking, violence against women, etc. Dr Rijusmita Sarma Deka, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Dhemaji, delivered a speech on empowering women.
The secretary of the Mahila Samity of Dhemaji district, Niroma Baruah was also present in the programme as a resource person. She gave an assessment of the status of women and girl children in the district. Baruah warned against the possible negative role of modern technology with respect to women and society as a whole. Jaya Mandal from the Women�s Welfare Society informed the participants about the role women can play in maintaining peace and harmony.
Brief presentations were also made by specialists from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dhemaji, who included Yater Das, Bibha Ozah, Binita Konwar, Gunjan Gogoi and Manoranjan Gogoi, on the role of women in uplifting the society through agriculture and allied sectors.
The programme ended with the vote of thanks from Manoranjan Gogoi, subject matter specialist, Home Science, KVK, Dhemaji.
