Prog on cold chain development

GUWAHATI, Oct 20 - PHD Chamber, National Centre for Cold-chain Development (NCCD) and Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare jointly organised an outreach awareness programme on cold chain development today at the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Limited (NEDFi), Dispur here, a press release stated.

A booklet by NCCD and Mission for Development of Horticulture, Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare (MIDH) titled Awareness Programme on Cold-chain Schemes was unveiled on the occasion.

Chief guest Shobhana K Pattanayak, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Govt of India asked the entrepreneurs and farmers of the north-eastern region to focus on proper food storage and integrated cold chain development to check food wastage. He called upon the audience to come forward as the government is focusing on the development of the NE region.

Dr Ranjeet Mehta, director, PhD Chamber, in his welcome remarks said that for the development of cold chain in the region, it is important to bring awareness among the farmers as well as the stakeholders of cold chain.

Pawanexh Kohli, chief adviser and CEO, NCCD, Government of India, in his speech, highlighted all the benefits of setting up cold storage in the North East and building a proper cold chain thereof. He also focused on the subject matter of the programme and said that awareness among the stakeholders is necessary for development. SK Hazarika, regional manager, PHD Chamber, NER, Guwahati, highlighted the various schemes of the Govt and focused on cold chain development, the release added.
