Professor Dolon Konwar passes away

TEZPUR, Jan 18 � Prof Dr Dolon Konwar, Dean of School of Energy, Environment and Natural Resources and Dean of Students Welfare of Tezpur University passed away today around 12.45 pm at his Tezpur Nikamul Satra residence.

Dr Konwar was suffering from diabetes and kidney problems. He was 64.

Late Dr. Konwar obtained his Msc Degree in chemistry in 1969 from Institute of Technology, Khargapur and Phd. Degree in 1978 from Punjab University, Chandigarh.

From 1986 to 1987 Dr Konwar did his post-doctoral research on biomass energy with Dr Melvin Calvin, Nobel laureate at Lawrence Breakley Laboratory, University of California, Berkely USA. Dr Konwar served Sivsagar College as lecturer from 1969 to 1972, Assam Oil Company Limited, Digboi as a research chemist from 1971 to 1974, Assam. Agricultural University as asstt professor from 1980 to 1982 and as associate professor from 1988 to 1995. In 1995 Dr Konwar joined Tezpur University as professor of energy and developed the department of energy as the HoD.

Dr Konwar also served TU as acting VC. He also published a book on bio-gas and it�s uses.

Dr Konwar was awarded �Rastrya Ekta Award 200� instituted in the memory of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Indira Gandhi Sadbhawana award 2000, International Gold Star Millenium Award 2001 at the fifth international conference on Indo-Nepal friendship cooperation held at Kathmandu.

It may be mentioned here that Dr Konwar recently developed a waste treatment plant for hospitals and nursing homes . Several nursing homes have already adopted this technology.
