Prof Umesh Goswami memorial lecture

GUWAHATI, June 21 - Well-wishers, research scholars, past and present students, colleagues, relatives and friends of Prof Umesh Chandra Goswami have decided to organise the first Prof Umesh Chandra Goswami Memorial Lecture on his first death anniversary on June 25 at the Gauhati University to pay tribute to the late academician.

According to Prof Jogen Chandra Kalita, one of the organisers of the lecture, Prof Goswami, who was an eminent zoologist and a former professor and Head of the Department of Zoology, GU, was a pioneer in propagating zoological studies and research work in the entire north-eastern region of the country, particularly in Assam. He passed away on June 25 last year following a brief illness, a few months after his retirement from the GU.

As a teacher, Prof Goswami could leave behind an indelible image of his in the hearts of his students with his teaching methods, approaches and guidance and conscious efforts to develop the personalities of his students. He devoted himself wholeheartedly to the welfare and academic excellence of his students and this was the reason for which he was able to create a stimulating environment in the classroom and in the department. His caring personality enhanced relationship with students and he made all of his students feel important.

Prof Goswami was also the founder general secretary of the GU Alumni Association, said Prof Kalita.
