Prof Mrinal Miri may be inducted in Clause 6 panel

NEW DELHI, July 30 - The Centre is likely to nominate Prof Mrinal Miri as a member of the high level committee on implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. Sources said that Miri�s name has been forwarded by the Assam government to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for approval.

The 13-member high level committee in its first meeting last week had recommended that a representative from tribal community should be nominated to the panel. It was among three recommendation of the committee headed by Justice (retd) Biplab Kumar Sarma.

Prof Miri, who is an educationist by profession, held several important positions, including Director, Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla; Chairman, Indian Council of Philosophical Research, Delhi; Vice Chancellor, North Eastern Hill University, Shillong; and Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh.

He was nominated to Rajya Sabha in July 2012 as a member. He was also a member of the Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment.
