JALUKBARI, June 10 - The 14th Professor HP Das Memorial Meet commemorating the 14th death anniversary of Dr Hari Prasanna Das, founder Head of the Department of Geography, Gauhati University, and founder president of the North-East India Geographical Society (NEIGS), was held in the Department of Geography seminar hall, GU, recently.
Dr Tomo Riba, Professor, Department of Geography, Rajiv Gandhi University, Doimukh delivered the memorial lecture on �Rural Depopulation and its Impact on Resource Management.
GU Vice Chancellor Dr Mridul Hazarika inaugurated the meet, which was presided over by NEIGS president Prof AK Bhagabati. The programme, organised by the NEIGS in association with Department of Geography, GU, was attended by members of the geography fraternity, kin of the late Prof Das and his well-wishers.
Guests of honour Prof MM Das and TP Das spoke about the contributions of Late Dr HP Das towards promotion of geography education and research.
The Prof HP Das Memorial Award, instituted by the NEIGS consisting of a trophy, cash Rs 5,000 and a citation, was given away to Pankaj Sarma of Bajali College for securing the first position in MA examination in Geography, 2016, under GU. The annual newsletter of the Department of Geography, GU, was released at the meet by Prof DC Goswami, stated a press release issued here.
