Prof Ashraf Ali remembered in London

GUWAHATI, May 29 � A group of Assamese people gathered at the Srimanta Sankardeva International Cultural Centre at London in UK on May 20 to remember the contributions of Prof Ashraf Ali towards the Assamese education system, a press release issued by Bipul Sarma, coordinator of Assam and Assam Association in UK, said.

Those present saluted Ali for his outstanding contribution in every aspect of Assamese society and prayed that his soul rest in peace. Dr Karuna Sagar Das spoke highly about Prof Ali�s values, commitment towards education, society etc. He led the gathering for a condolence meeting and also prayed for his family members.

Dr Das said his demise was an irreparable loss to the Assamese society. Shabana Hussain, granddaughter of Prof Ali, who lives in London, also shared her sweet memories about her beloved nana. Arundhati Das, Hiramoni Sarma, Ayushman Saha, Nilakshi Hazarika, Gautom Bora, Debojit Saikia, Barnali Saikia, Sameer Goswami, Bharati Goswami and others paid homage to the highly reverred academician, the release concluded.
