ITANAGAR, May 26 - The process of forming a new government in Arunachal Pradesh got underway Sunday with State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Kaling Tayeng submitting a list of newly-elected MLAs to Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) at Raj Bhavan here.
The CEO called on the Governor and submitted a copy of the notification issued by the ECI, containing the names of members elected to the State Assembly. He was accompanied by Additional Chief Electoral Officer Kanki Darang and Election Commission of India (ECI) representatives Ankit Gupta and Birendra Kumar.
The ruling BJP has registered a resounding victory in the April 11 polls in the State by winning 41 out of 60 Assembly seats, while the opposition Congress bagged four, People�s Party of Arunachal (PPA) one and new entrants Janata Dal (United) and National People�s Party (NPP) seven and five seats respectively, and Independents two.
Unconfirmed sources said that the new Cabinet would take oath of office and secrecy on May 29 � a day ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi�s swearing-in.
Before staking claim to form the new government, the Arunachal Pradesh BJP will have its Legislature Party meeting at Itanagar on Monday. BJP central observers � former Union Health Minister JP Nadda and Assam Health & Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma are likely to attend the legislature party meeting.
In the meantime, Chief Minister Pema Khandu called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan here today and tendered his resignation along with that of the Council of Ministers.
The Governor accepted the resignation and requested Khandu and his Council of Ministers to continue till the new Government is sworn-in.
