Probe sought into suspected trafficking

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 25 - The Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has asked the Additional Director General of Police (CID), Assam, to institute an inquiry into a suspected case of child trafficking that took place when a newborn was under the care of the CWC (Kamrup).

As per the case, a minor had given birth to a boy while under the care of an NGO and following the birth of the baby, its mother was shifted to the Psychiatry Department while the baby was left to the care of the CWC (Kamrup).

The birth certificate of the infant, however, mentions it as a girl, raising serious doubts that the baby boy could have been trafficked.
