Probe on into death of baby girl

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, June 5 Investigation into the unnatural death of a two-day old baby girl at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on May 3 is on, although no arrest has been made so far in this connection.

Police have registered two cases in this connection.

While doctors at GMCH had lodged an FIR relating to the unnatural death of the baby, another FIR was lodged by the security guard.

Police also informed that so far no complaint has been filed by the family members of the new-born.

Investigation is on and we have also quizzed the security guard in question. However, it is still not clear what actually had happened on that day. It would take a few more days to unearth the actual account of things, police said.

Police, when asked, said that the investigation has revealed that the mother of the victim was asleep when the incident took place.

Meanwhile, Ramen Talukdar, superintendent, GMCH, said that the hospital is extending full cooperation to the police and it, if required, would act only after the investigation is over.

It needs mention here that family members of the baby who was born on the night of June 1 following a caesarian operation, died after she fell on the floor. While some alleged that the baby died after she was dumped to the bed by a security guard, others termed it as a case of an accidental fall.
