GUWAHATI, May 19 � The pro-talk faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) is yet to finalize its charter of demands to pave the way for starting formal talks with Central and State Governments.
The ULFA pro-talk group is hoping that the formal talks would resume next month. Sources in the pro-talk faction of the ULFA said that they had a few rounds of discussion on the draft charter of demands prepared by the Sanmilita Jatiya Abhibartan (SJA) and a few more rounds of talks would be held within the next few days. The formal charter of demands would be finalized before the formal talks on political issues resume, sources said.
The pro-talk group is also thinking in lines of sending one senior member to Bangladesh to meet ULFA general secretary Anup Chetia, who is under the protective custody of Bangladesh after completing his jail term. However, the final decision in this regard is yet to be taken.
Meanwhile, official sources said that if the pro-talk group wants to send one senior leader to Bangladesh to hold talks with Chetia on the issue of talks, the Government would definitely facilitate such a move. �The Central and State Government are keen on carrying forward the peace process. If any pro-talk member has to go to Bangladesh for smooth progress of the peace process, the Government would definitely facilitate such a move,� sources added. However, the Government is yet to receive any formal proposal from the pro-talk group in this regard.
On the possibility of bringing back Chetia to India, sources said that the Government of India is yet to start the process of brining him back to India. Sources revealed that the Government is likely to start the process of bringing the ULFA general secretary to India only if the peace process progresses smoothly.
