By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 25 - The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum Kamrup has ordered Prime Cabs, a taxi service establishment, to pay compensation of Rs 49,119 to a consumer Susanta Kundu, within 60 days.

The complainant Kundu booked a cab of Prime Cabs for his journey from Bamunimaidam to the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport on October 1, 2014. The pick-up time for the cab was 11 am so as to catch the flight of Indigo Air Service from Guwahati to Delhi at 1.25 pm.

But on the scheduled day, despite the repeated pleas from the consumer and assurance from the cab company to pick him up at the right time, the cab driver reached 43 minutes late i.e. at 11.43 am. Due to this delay, Kundu and two other members of his family missed their flight. They reached the airport at 12.55 pm. As the complainant failed to catch the flight, he had to purchase new tickets paying additional amounts, to reach New Delhi.

In spite of repeated complaints to the Prime Cabs authorities about the incident, Kundu did not get any response from the company and filed a complaint with the Consumers Legal Protection Forum against the Prime Cabs for its service deficiency and negligence, a statement from the forum said.

On behalf of the complainant, advocate Subhash Mohan Sarma, administrator and advocate Ajoy Hazarika, secretary of Consumers Legal Protection Forum filed cases bearing the case no. CC-118/2014 with the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Kamrup. After one-and-a-half year of prosecution, the District Forum ordered Prime Cabs to pay a compensation of Rs 49,119 to the complainant and made the Prime Cabs liable for their deficiency in service and negligence as it has failed to take care of the rights of customers as it promised.
