NEW DELHI, July 21 UPA candidate Pranab Mukherjee is all set to be elected the 14th President of India tomorrow when the counting of votes will take place, reports PTI.

Mukherjees path to victory has been ensured with all the UPA partners and major outside allies like SP and BSP and some Opposition parties backing him in the election in which he is pitted against former Speaker P A Sangma.

Congress-led UPA has claimed Mukherjee will win around 70 per cent of the votes in the direct contest with Sangma, who is backed by some Opposition parties.

The counting of ballots of MPs as well as MLAs from all the states will begin in the capital tomorrow morning and the result is expected by late afternoon, according to officials. As per the norm, the ballot boxes from the states have been brought here for the counting. The election was held on July 19.

The new President will be administered the oath of office by the Chief Justice of India on July 25.

Media must be balanced: Jairam

Guwahati, July 21 In the backdrop of the recent molestation here and the national outcry over it, Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh today called upon the media to act in a more balanced manner, reports PTI.

Stories done by the media in the North East would be picked up by the national media and project Assam as a case where there is only ethnic violence and only atrocities on women. There is more to Assam than all this, he said inaugurating a centre opened by the Tata Consultancy Services here.

While reporting negative events the media should highlight all angles. I think there is a great responsibility on the media also to be more balanced.

Assam has been shaken by two incidents of molestation recently.
