Presentation on gauge conversion work

GUWAHATI, Sept 28 � A presentation was made by the Northeast Frontier Railway Construction Organisation this week before Members of Parliament (MPs) regarding progress of the Lumding-Silchar gauge conversion work and its preparedness to take up the Mega Block in the Lumding-Silchar metergauge section.

The Mega Block will commence from October 1 and is expected to last for six months. Rajen Gohain, MP from Nagaon, Radheshyam Biswas, MP from Karimganj and Sushmita Dev, MP from Silchar were present during the presentation, said an official statement.

The MPs also made some suggestions and assured all possible help at their level for completion of the project.

RK Singh, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) Construction, and RS Virdi, GM of NFR, along with other Heads of Departments were also present during the meeting.

The Lumding-Silchar Gauge Conversion Project is targeted to be completed by March 2015.

During the Mega Block period, the remaining gauge conversion works� at 102 broadgauge/metergauge intersections,� commissioning of 29 station yards, construction of two major and six minor bridges and� the tunnel No. 10 will be completed.
