DIPHU, Oct 21 � Emergence of a new militant outfit �Hills State United Liberation Front� (HSULF) with its base at Assam-Nagaland border was confirmed recently following the nabbing of two cadres of the outfit near Dhansiri Siding by people of the locality.
According to the police, Durbachan Langthasa and Dilli Daulagapu opened fire at the residence of one Bhim Rai from a distance but failed to inflict any injury on any family member.
Following the incident, hundreds of villagers both from Nagaland and Assam combed the area in hunt for the miscreants for hours in areas surrounded by thick foliage and on the bank of Dhansiri river.
At around midnight both the miscreants were apprehended by the villagers. Durbachan Langthasa attempted to break away from the human cordon and managed to plunge in the swollen river but was captured by the villagers.
Both cadres were handed over to Dhansiri police, who later shifted them to headquarters police station at Diphu. One pistol and few ammunition were recovered from the captured ultras.
According to a senior police officer, both the accused have confessed before police that Hills State United Liberation Front (HSULF) was raised in 2013 which became operational in the month of June.
They also reportedly told the police that presently around 40 Dimasa and 20 Bodo youth are in the group. The group is also reportedly headed by one Hakato Aumi as its chairman which is possession of a good number of small and medium firearms.
The police source quoting two ultras said that the outfit�s arsenal consisted of two lathed guns, three G-3 rifles, three self- loading rifles, two carbines, 20 AK-47s and 56 assault rifles, 20 9 mm pistols and 50 grenades. Police assured that appropriate steps would be taken to apprehend the HSULF cadres.
