Preparations on for Me-Dam-Me-Fi at Dhemaji

DHEMAJI, Jan 28 - Preparations are on to observe Me-Dam-Me-Fi at Dhemaji on its DRDA office campus (Sati Jaymati Kshetra) centrally on January 31 with a daylong programme under the aegis of Dhemaji district unit of All Tai Ahom Students� Union (ATASU).

In this connection, a celebration committee has been constituted with Naren Konwar as president, Manik Gogoi as executive president, Pangkaj Chetia and Homen Boruah as joint secretaries and ATASU president Manoj Gogoi as chief patron.

As per the schedule, the Me-Dam-Me-Fi will begin at 9.30 am with unfurling of the flag and it will be followed by maidam tarpan and garlanding on Siu-Ka-Pha�s portrait, respectively. Then a function of prayers to the ancestors of the Ahom community will be inaugurated by advocate Naren Gohain, member of Tai Ahom Development Council.

A harmonious cultural procession will be taken out at 10.30 am. The procession will be inaugurated by Dhemaji SP Nilesh T Sawakare. It will be participated by actors Arun Hazarika, Nayan Nirban and Joon Joon. Subsequently, various ethnic cultures will also be exhibited.

The open session will be held at 12.30 pm which will be inaugurated by litterateur Umesh Chetia. In the open meeting, Atan Buragohain Award will be conferred on Tarun Gogoi, former chief minister of Assam.

The open meeting will be attended by Swapon Gogoi, former president of the ATASU as appointed speaker, while Anupam Chakrawati, senior journalist and Tularam Gogoi, advocate of Guahati High Court will attend the meeting as guests of honour.

On the other hand, Me-Dam-Me-Fi will also be observed here at Habung, the second capital of Ahom Kingdom founded by Siu-Ka-Pha on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra under the aegis of the Habung Anchalik Unit of the ATASU and in cooperation with the Habung Development and Management Committee with a two-day programme on January 30 and 31.

The first day programme includes lighting, garlanding on portraits of Siu-Ka-Pha, Lachit Borphukan and Sati Jaymati, Fralung Puja, Tai song competition, etc. The second day programme includes flag hoisting, rituals, maidam tarpan and open meeting.

The open meeting to be chaired by RA Korati, DC of Dhemaji, will be attended by Shiba Prasad Gogoi, ex-principal of Dhakuakhana College, and Hemanta Kumar Boruah, vice-president of Asam Sahitya Sabha as chief guests, while several dignitaries, including Siu-Ka-Pha Award winning scholar Dr Puspa Gogoi will participate in the meeting as appointed speakers.
