Pregnant lady harassed at airport, CISF institutes inquiry

By CORRESPONDENT

JALUKBARI, June 26 - In a shocking incident, a pregnant woman was allegedly stripped by a lady CISF officer at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport to verify if she was really pregnant.

The incident took place on Sunday when the woman and her husband were travelling back to Delhi by SpiceJet flight SG-169 after attending the final rituals of her deceased father.

Shivam Sarmah, the husband of the harassed lady, alleged that a hand-held metal detector was used by the CISFs lady sub-inspector to check his 25 weeks pregnant wife despite her request not to use the metal detector. Sarmah further alleged that there were no doctors at the airport when the incident took place.

Sarmah further alleged that they were denied the boarding pass by the CISF authorities at the airport, who insisted that they show proof of his wifes pregnancy and asked his wife to accompany the lady CISF officer to a room where she was forced to undress. The lady officer even pushed the victims abdomen to check her pregnancy manually, lest she was lying.

In the meantime, the CISF has stated in a tweet that they have taken the incident seriously and have instituted an inquiry into the matter.
