Pre-Idd Mela gets under way

GUWAHATI, Sept 4 � The second Pre-Idd Mela got under way yesterday at NEDFi Haat here. The timings of the fair are from 10 am to 8 pm. Organised by NE Fashion & Handicrafts, the fair has on offer a variety of items ranging from garments, jewellery to food items. An attraction at the Mela is the Orissa section, specially designed for the people of Assam.

The event was inaugurated by leading Assamese film actress Zerifa Wahid, who is also the brand ambassador for the event. The concept of the Idd Mela was explained by social activist and educationist Arindam Garg. He explained the significance and emotional involvement of Assamese people in the celebration of Idd.

The opening ceremony was attended by many leading personalities of Assam, including cine actor Kapil Bora, music director Tapan of the Bollywood duo Jitu-Tapan, Rajat Kamal Award winners Charu Kamal Hazarika and Nayanmoni Barua. Leading human rights and social activist and general secretary of APCC Jesmina Islam was the chief guest, a press release stated.
